5 ways to stay sexy in the silly season
This time of year priorities of health, wellness and fitness seem to fall by the wayside as we accept invitations to drinks, dinner and ditch the morning training for what feels like a much needed sleep in.
It is true on occasion we get run down and overwhelmed and in this instance we need rest, but more often than not we feel so much better for moving. I can relate to feeling like the end of the year can’t come soon enough, but I also keep in mind how I want to be feeling as I welcome 2013. Here are a few easy tips to staying on track over the next few weeks, just things I think about and try to put into place so that I can start the new year feeling happy, fresh and ready to take on new challenges!
1. Start the day with exercise – even if it is a half hour walk or six Sun Salutations this sets a positive mindset for the day and helps me make healthier decisions.
2. Fill up with healthy foods – I plan and prepare healthy meals and aim to eat so much healthy food that there’s no room for the crap!
3. Be the designated driver – this one is either easy (you don’t drink) or really hard! But keep drinking in check by being the driver at least half of the time when you are heading out. Remember alcohol is not only empty calories but when you drink your body will metabolize the alcohol and NOT THE FOOD YOU EAT!
4. Make healthy treats – lets be honest we are all going to be indulging in some treats so you may as well have some healthy ones in hand! Try my cacao balls, these gingerbread cookies, raw nuts or a big fruit salad.
5. Stay active – if you notice yourself lazing around, standing in front of the fridge or cupboard looking for something to eat out of boredom, or feeling ‘blah’ – then get moving! A bike ride, walking the dog or taking the kids to play in the park is all it takes to keep the blood pumping and stop you from mindless eating. I aim to swim in the beach everyday when I can, this makes my whole body feel alive and is a beautiful way to spend an hour outside.
