Yoga Playlist

I often get asked what music I use to chill out, bend and breathe and meditate. Those of you out there who frequent my classes will know that I love a huge range of music, not all of it your usual ‘Yoga’ soundtrack, and you most definitely won’t be hearing any dolphins or bird calls in the HappyFit studio! I love all types of music, and I’m very open to recommendations so please feel free to comment below if there’s something you would love to share.

Yoga Playlist – This playlist is funky and got a good beat, but still chilled

~’Be the Change’ ‘Shanti’ – MC Yogi
~‘Society’ ‘Rise’ ‘Hard Sun’ ‘The Wolf’ – all by Eddie Vedder, so anything by Eddie Vedder really!
~‘Reunite’ ‘Isha’ ‘Dance of the Seven Sisters’ and ‘The Jasmine Garden’ – all by Deya Dova – Most of her stuff is awesome my favourite album is The Jasmine Garden
~Sacred Earth – The albums ‘Divine Devotion’ and ‘Bhakti’ are awesome, most of their music is perfect for Yoga and Meditation
~Anything by Xavier Rudd
~‘Teardrop’ – Massive attack
~Alt J – Album ‘An Awesome Wave’
~‘Presence’ ‘Invocation’ – Ty Burhoe, magic listening
~Deva Premal’s album ‘The Essence’ my favourite song being ‘The Gayatri Mantra’ – I sing this mantra to Lotus before she goes to sleep each night
~‘Samki’ & ‘Phayul’ – by Tenzin Choegyal, I’ve just recently discovered the power of his music when I saw him open for The Dalai Lama in Uluru
~‘To the last’ & ‘Retrograde’ – James Blake
London Grammar – anything by them as she has the voice of an angel
~Flume’s album ‘Flume’
~‘Intro’ ‘Angels’ ‘Crystalised’ & ‘Islands’ – The xx
~‘Crave you’ ‘Clair De Lune’ – by Flight Facilities
~Most songs by Chet Faker are great listening to flow to

Meditation Playlist – I don’t actually listen to music to meditate, however I understand the need to have something in the background when you are stilling your thoughts. These songs are also great for a more yin style Yoga practice.

~The album ‘The sacred Chants of Devi – 108 sacred names, Mother Divine’ by Craig Pruess & Ananda is beautiful
~‘Deuter’ is a great artist to meditate to
~‘Invocation’ – by Deva Premal, this is on the album ‘Eckhart Tolle’s – music to quieten the mind’ which is a great album for meditating

Well I could go on…and on and on and on…music is such a simple pleasure and has the power to evoke both memories and emotions. My daughter asked me the other day what happens when you’ve read all the books there are to read in the world, and I told her luckily there are gifted people out there, who are being born every day, who will write more books for us to read, and music is the same.

I’ll leave you with this, I happen to read it the other day in ‘The power of meow’ by David Michie

“Music is incredibly powerful, almost magical in the way it marries consciousness to energy. Different music carries different vibrational qualities, and just listening to it can change one’s own energy and mood – it’s like alchemy.”
